@Luke – Thanks for reading, dude. Hope to have you as a regular around here. Yeah, I fully expected people to disagree with parts of my list (As with all my top 5s). That’s the joy of it, I like hearing what people have to say about a subject.

The only one I haven’t seen is Dark City, as you can probably expect – so that’s on my “to watch” list, so I’ll probably watch it within the week.

Not sure about the order of your list, but it’s good none-the-less!

I guess it’s down to personal taste really. I really enjoyed E.T. and i still do when i watch it occasionally and if it was a ‘family fun alien movies’ list then it would never be moved from top spot but, as i prefere my movies a little dark and sinister with twists and the ability to divert with my own story in my head at the end, it just isn’t for me.
E.T. probably thinking about it now, is worthy of maybe 5th spot on my list.

@Magua – Yeah I guessed ET would be a bit of a controversial choice but I had to include it simply for what the movie means to me. It evokes such good childhood memories.

You should definately get hold of Dark City. It’s superb. Such atmosphere.

Dark city was one of those films that i put on my ‘to-watch’ list but never actually watched it. Infact, i’d totally forgotten of its existance till this.

I can remember watching The Thing on my own when i was younger in a dark room and boy did i love it! It had me all kinds of scared, my imagination ran wild with the thought that any member of my family or friends could be an alien being and i’d have no clue about it till i was watching my legs kick about on the floor from the other side of the room.
It deserves top spot for me, followed by Alien/Aliens[Ignore the rest], because they also gave me that ‘what if..?’ and ‘What would happen if i was there..?’ imagination overload. Top movie for inspiring my idea of what i want from a movie.

Good list again, but E.T. would only make the top 10, not top 5.
